LET'S LENT

ALL OUR LENTEN ACTIVITIES

Our Work

Lent is the annual season of preparation for the Most Holy of all Seasons in the Church, Easter. It begins on Ash Wednesday  and ends on Holy Thursday evening  when the Triduum begins.

  • All healthy Catholics from age 18-59 fast and abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday and abstain from meat all other Fridays during Lent

  • Youth ages 14-17 are also required to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

  • When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal.

We are also urged to renew ourselves spiritually throughout Lent by practicing the three main Lenten disciplines: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. There are many ways to do all three of these things.  Perhaps one way to consider is through social media.

  • Many people today fast from social media during lent.  However, you could also view social media in a different way.  Rather than fasting completely, fast from those things that are harmful, such as sharing gossip or posting or liking hurtful or inappropriate memes.

  • Then incorporate prayer and giving into social media.  For example, post prayers that are especially meaningful to you during lent to share with others.  Or, intentionally give encouragement via social media to those whom you know need it.

Let's Lent

on Wednesdays

Join us for 3 nights of Lenten experiences. Each night will last about an hour. Hear a faith story, join in a prayer experience and share social distanced time together as part of your Lenten journey. So mark you calendars for February 24th, March 3rd and March 10. Set your watches for 6:30 p.m. And Let’s Lent Together!

PRAYER . FASTING . ALMSGIVING

Here are some photos of our Wednesday Lenten nights.

The St. Patrick Liturgy Committee is sending home with each family a Family Lenten Calendar. Our hope is that each family uses it to draw closer to Christ. If you can’t make it to Mass to pick yours up, call Melody Miller at 712-621-6224 and she will deliver it to you.
